A beginner’s guide to betting on football
A remarkable 40 per cent of all money wagered by bettors in the UK is wagered on football.
I’ll take you through a little crash course on NFL spreads before we start our weekly column.
Two Ways to Bet
There are two ways Las Vegas makes its odds for each game: the “money line” and the “spread.”
With the money line, you pick the winner. The amount wagered and the payout will vary depending on how badly the odds makers think the favorite will defeat the underdog (the team favored to lose).
Picking the spread is a bit more difficult. Instead of picking the winning team, a handicap is installed.
The home team’s spread is listed in capital letters (Example: GIANTS (-4) over Redskins). Here’s how you list the spread and your pick when you place a bet. Your choice is the first team listed, and their handicap is displayed next to their name.
Picking the Favorite
I picked the Giants (-4) over the Redskins in the example. Since the spread is four points, for my pick to be correct, the Giants must win by at least five points. The favorite is given four points.
Imagine subtracting four points from the total number of points scored by the Giants in the game and see if they still win.
Thus, it is crucial that you, as the punter, know all the key features of the football บาคาร่าออนไลน์ markets.
As a result of the large volume of matches, the industry has grown and has allowed bettors to wager on a whole host of markets, with many betting sites offering special offers and competitive odds.
Here we explain what you need to know about football betting so you can avoid getting lost in the confusion.
An overview of how betting works
In betting, odds are the ratio between the stake and winnings on a given outcome. They are set by a bookmaker. There are usually fractions (e.g., 2/1), but there can also be decimals (2.00), and you can decide which one you prefer. For example, if the outcome of an event has odds of 2/1 (or 2.00), it means you will win £2 for every £1 you bet.
